Tom Collins accepts instructions in all Chambers' areas of expertise, with a particular interest in professional negligence matters.
Expertise
He has a broad personal injury practice, encompassing occupiers' and employers' liability, claims against local authorities and RTA (often involving allegations of fraud and/or significant credit hire claims). He has experience in insurance coverage disputes arising from RTA. As a pupil he assisted John Ross QC and Laura Johnson in the Court of Appeal in Bristol Alliance v Williams and EUI, concerning the liability of insurers to innocent third party victims (judgment awaited).
Tom has a particular interest in professional negligence, including clinical negligence. As Zachary Bredemear’s pupil he worked on a number of solicitors’ and conveyancers’ negligence claims. As Sophie Mortimer’s pupil he gained extensive experience in clinical negligence, including cases of failure to diagnose or refer, negligent surgery (including dental surgery) and post-operative treatment.
He also has an interest in litigation with a foreign element. As Matthew Chapman’s pupil he gained experience in conflict of laws and travel claims. He has a good working knowledge of the EC Judgments, Package Travel and Rome II Regulations, as well as the Athens and Montreal Convention.
