Ian has a wide-ranging common law practice acting for both claimants and defendants. In particular Ian has extensive experience of acting in professional negligence claims brought against solicitors, insurance brokers, surveyors and valuers and has recently acted for a local authority in a professional negligence claim involving an outbreak of scabies at a care home. Additionally, Ian has experience of dealing with educational negligence claims and claims arising from physical and sexual abuse.
He also acts for a variety of local authorities, police forces and insurers in all manner of personal injury claims, often where there are allegations of fraudulent conduct.
Ian’s local authority/public law practice also encompasses community care law and the enforceability of care charges.
He also acts for a number of police forces in relation to claims alleging defamation, misfeasance in public office, discrimination, wrongful arrest and unlawful detention and breaches of the Human Rights Act/ECHR.
Ian has a special interest in regulatory law having recently appeared before the British Horseracing Authority in a four-day multi-party conspiracy trial. Ian is also on the panel of approved prosecutors for the Bar Standards Board.

Ian came to the bar with a degree in Jurisprudence from Oxford University.
