Year of Call: 2013

Ella joined Chambers in October 2016 following completion of her pupillage under the supervision of Ian Miller, Simon Trigger and Laura Johnson. She accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers work and is developing a broad civil common law practice.

Ella appears regularly in small claims and fast track trials as well as interim applications in a variety of cases including multi track and high court cases. She has a broad personal injury practice acting for claimants, insurers, local authorities and NHS trusts in claims arising out of road traffic accidents, employers’ and occupiers’ liability claims.

During pupillage she was involved in clinical negligence cases for both claimants and defendants and is keen to develop her own practice in this area as well as in the full range of professional negligence work. Ella also has experience of, and a particular interest in, civil actions against the police.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Ella worked for two years as the Assistant Legal Officer, Employment at the Free Representation Unit. During this time she appeared in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal and successfully represented a claimant in a four day pregnancy discrimination claim. She also supervised FRU volunteers in the conduct of their Employment Tribunal cases giving her a good working knowledge of unfair and wrongful dismissal, breach of contract claims, the Working Time Regulations, the TUPE regulations and the Equality Act. In addition to her employment work, Ella regularly represented appellants in social security First Tier Tribunal appeals and gained experience in Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority claims.

Ella read History and Modern Languages (French) at the University of Oxford where she was a scholar of Hertford College. She then gained a Distinction in the Graduate Diploma in Law and an Outstanding in the Bar Professional Training Course. She was awarded a Major Scholarship for both years by the Inner Temple and in 2014 won the Inner Temple Lawson Moot.
